Background
PACE Cardiology is a leading cardiac evaluation practice operating clinics across Ontario in Barrie, Newmarket, and Orillia, serving tens of thousands of patients annually. As world leaders in cardiac evaluation, PACE needed a digital presence that matched the calibre of their clinical work — and a secure way to communicate with patients that met Ontario's strict PHIPA privacy requirements. Their existing website was outdated, their patient communication relied on phone and fax, and they had no compliant digital channel for reaching patients with health information, wellness content, or appointment coordination. PACE engaged Agency In A Box to rebuild their entire digital footprint.
The Challenge
- The existing website did not reflect PACE's position as a leader in cardiac evaluation, and lacked dynamic content for services, specialists, conditions, and research
- Patient communication had no PHIPA-compliant digital channel — everything went through phone, fax, or unsecured email
- Standard email platforms (Mailchimp, SendGrid, etc.) store data on US servers, violating Canadian data sovereignty requirements for health information
- PACE needed to serve multiple audiences — patients, referring clinics, healthcare providers — each with distinct information needs and referral workflows
- A growing wellness and cardiac coaching program needed its own digital home without cluttering the main clinical site
Our Approach
- Rebuilt the PACE Cardiology website on Gatsby with Strapi as a headless CMS, enabling dynamic pages for services, specialists, conditions and treatments, research, and referral workflows — all managed by PACE's team
- Developed a PHIPA-compliant communication strategy and platform, establishing secure channels for patient outreach, appointment coordination, and health information delivery
- Deployed a privately hosted version of MailWhiz as PACE's email server — fully hosted in Canada to ensure data sovereignty and PHIPA compliance for all patient communications
- Built serverless referral form processing via Netlify Functions, enabling physicians and clinics to submit patient referrals digitally with secure data handling
- Created MyView.ca as a companion wellness site built on Astro, focused on cardiac wellness, mindfulness, fitness, stress management, and group coaching programs
The Impact
PACE now operates with a digital presence that reflects their standing as leaders in cardiac evaluation. The CMS-driven site lets their team manage specialists, services, conditions, and research content without developer involvement. The PHIPA-compliant communication platform and Canadian-hosted email infrastructure give PACE a secure, auditable channel for patient outreach — something most cardiology practices in Canada still lack. MyView.ca extends PACE's reach into preventive wellness, giving patients a dedicated resource for cardiac health coaching and lifestyle programs.
